Let’s make it about the people, people

In an age of generic Ai summaries, putting real company staff at the front of news and technical content makes brands more credible.

It is probably a better time than ever to put real people from the business at the front of content. Many companies still do the opposite. They hide their staff behind a voice that is interchangeable with everyone else in the market. But now that carries a cost. Content filtered through Ai summaries makes generic company copy easier to flatten. But when a managing director comments on a market change, or an engineer explains why one specification matters more than another, the content sounds like it came from somewhere real.

Company news is often at its weakest when it is written as if nobody in the firm was actually involved. A contract win or a new accreditation becomes much more interesting when somebody connected to them explains what changed and why it matters. The same is true of technical content. Staff explaining the hidden details that make projects succeed or fail are exactly the things that make an article useful. Yet too often, they are stripped out and replaced with generalised wording that feels ‘professional’ but says very little.

There is another benefit too. Staff-led content is harder to imitate. A competitor can copy the broad messaging. What they cannot easily copy is the accumulated experience of our people and the way we explain a problem.

None of this means a new feature on a blue widget has to be turned into a personality piece. It simply means letting more of the company’s actual knowledge show through, and being more willing to attach that knowledge to the people who hold it.
