Good B2B search advertising copy never dies

In B2B search advertising, freshness for its own sake is rarely helpful. Timing is. And when the timing is right, good copy never dies.

In B2B search advertising, good ads don’t wear out. They can keep working for years, quietly delivering the same steady flow of leads. That’s because our audiences don’t see them every day. They usually see them only when they’re searching for what we sell, and that’s probably not often.

A technical buyer doesn’t spend their mornings idly browsing for blue widgets. When they need one, they search. And when they search, they’ll see our ad, whether we wrote it last week or last year. The ad we’re showing for that search should be new to them. There’s no fatigue. They’re not scrolling past our copy for the hundredth time.

This is completely different from a lot of consumer and non-search advertising, where exposure and novelty are everything. A consumer might see advertising from the same brand twenty times in a week. If it doesn’t refresh, it feels stale. In display advertising, the audience isn’t actively looking, so the message has to keep surprising them.

In search, though, we don’t need surprise. We need relevance and reassurance. The right keywords trigger the right promise, and the buyer clicks. If the ad still reflects what we offer and still converts profitably, it doesn’t need rewriting.

We should still test. We can always improve our copy. But rewriting just to keep things “fresh” misses the point. In B2B search advertising, freshness for its own sake is rarely helpful. Timing is. And when the timing is right, good copy never dies.
