Cracking the big SEO opportunity

Tiny little websites can now beat huge brands in SEO by understanding how things have changed over the past few years.

This excellent article gave me some pause for thought the other day. It gives examples of how tiny little websites can beat huge brands in SEO by understanding how things have changed over the past few years.

The author says that we can achieve this by embracing what Google wants: content from credible voices that delivers on promises and is easy to read. Technically, the content should be crawlable and well structured. For users, it should feel authoritative in style and substance. It should also have a mix of formats (e.g. text, video) that let people choose how they engage. In other words, content which will end the user’s search.

One takeaway from that which we can all follow is to include more than one format. Making a video to demonstrate what the article says, and embedding it in the text, is such an easy win here.

I believe we shouldn’t look to hit the bullseye with just one thing. The reason for this is that we become an authority by providing expertise on a range of related subjects, and the more we demonstrate, the more they support each other. If that sounds a little chicken/egg, it is, but many businesses have cracked the issue. Perhaps all of us can.
