How do we make our website stand out?

We may not be able to reinvent the way a website looks, but we can make sure it doesn’t feel like everyone else’s.

It sometimes feels as if every website we look at has been built from the same kit. Clean, modern templates have raised the general standard, but the result is a sea of professional-looking but near-identical sites. For B2B firms, this is a problem. If our website looks and feels like everyone else’s, how do we stand out?

Graphic design on its own won’t save us. The difference increasingly comes from the substance behind the design. Do we explain things in a way that’s uniquely ours? Do we present insights that only we could provide? Those are harder to replicate, and they make a lasting impression.

Clarity is another factor. Too many websites fall into the trap of saying the same things in the same vague language. If we can write with more honesty and more interest, our message will cut through even if the visuals aren’t able to. Buyers are quick to sense when they’re reading yet another generic pitch. A clear, authoritative voice is often the simplest way to be distinctive.

Speed also plays a role. A fast, responsive site feels different because so many aren’t. It’s not glamorous, but in B2B a site that loads instantly and makes it easy to get to the right information can feel refreshingly uncommon. The same goes for keeping content current. If visitors see that our material is consistently updated, they’ll know we’re paying attention, and that creates trust.
