Up to date with automated bidding in Google Ads

Automated bidding isn’t magic, but it can make campaigns smarter and more efficient when you set the right goals and feed clean data.

Automated bidding in Google Ads is designed to take the hard work out of campaign management by letting Google’s Ai handle bid adjustments in real time. However, advertisers would be forgiven for being uncertain that they’re completely up to date with the latest options. If that’s you, take a read of The Pros & Cons of Every Automated Bidding Strategy in Google on the Wordstream blog, which is a very good summary of the state of the art.

Instead of manually tweaking bids based on hunches or historical data, Google Ads offers strategies like Target CPA, Target ROAS, Maximize Conversions, or Maximize Clicks, which let the system chase those goals automatically. The main attraction is that Google has access to far more signals than most of us ever could (like device type, time of day, or user behaviour) and can adjust bids instantly to reflect them.

That said, it’s not a silver bullet. We still need to set clear objectives, provide clean conversion data, and monitor performance closely. Automated bidding doesn’t replace strategic oversight, but when used judiciously, it can free up time and improve efficiency while giving campaigns the best chance of hitting their targets.
