The word from Bing on indexing

Keeping Content Discoverable with Sitemaps in AI Powered Search on the Microsoft Bing Blogs gives us some useful suggestions on indexing

While the SEO world hangs on every word of advice issued by Google, there’s a lot of good stuff put out from other sources too. The main search engines all work in the same way, so it’s all worth our attention. Keeping Content Discoverable with Sitemaps in AI Powered Search on the Microsoft Bing Blogs gives us some useful updated suggestions, including:

  • Almost any size sitemap is fine;
  • The ‘lastmod’ field in our sitemaps remains a key signal in prioritising URLs for recrawling and reindexing;
  • Sitemaps should be submitted through robots.txt and Bing Webmaster Tools (are you using this?); and
  • Use IndexNow for real-time URL submission, instantly notifying Bing and participating search engines when individual URLs are added, updated, or removed.
