The end of the line for google.co.uk

A fairly trivial bit of housekeeping in the search world, but an era is over, as Google has withdrawn its country-specific domains. Starting a few weeks ago, the likes of google.co.uk all started redirecting to google.com, which will now be the company’s sole top level domain.

Google has been providing the same results – regardless of the country-specific domain being used – for several years. Google wrote: “It’s important to note that while this update will change what people see in their browser address bar, it won’t affect the way search works, nor will it change how we handle obligations under national laws.”
