Here’s a short article helped by Ai, but not written by it. It took just minutes, and I think it’s pretty decent.
Yesterday I talked about how we might use Ai tools to assist with creating articles, rather than just handing over the task to them. Here’s a very basic example.
I wanted to write a piece about why customers might have to use our company as their blue widget supplier. I asked ChatGPT for 10 possible reasons, took its best suggestions, and added one of my own to make a list of five. Then I recorded myself talking off the top of my head about the list of reasons, straight into the Notes app on my phone with speech to text on.
I tidied this up manually (this is important!), then added an introduction, and got ChatGPT to check for spelling and suggest some titles which focused on the benefits to the customer of using our company. Here’s the finished article. From start to finish, it took about 25 minutes.
Stay on Schedule and in Control with Reliable, Ready-to-Fit Blue Widgets
What should machine builders be looking for when choosing a blue widget supplier? We asked Chris Rand, Engineering Manager here at the Blue Widget Company.
Chris said: “Firstly, products which offer seamless integration. Our blue widgets are designed with machine compatibility in mind, so whether you’re working with legacy systems or the latest automation platforms, from day one you’ll spend less time adapting and more time building.
“Something else that customers find really important is having reliable stock and fast lead times. We know delays can kill a project, so we guarantee short consistent lead types and we keep critical SKUs in stock. A third element to look at is industrial performance generally. Our widgets are built to industrial standards with real world validation across demanding environments that are certified, rugged and dependable with a track record you can trust.
“We also offer support that speaks to your language, from full CAD libraries to hands-on integration support. We work with your engineers, not just your purchasing team! Finally, we’re built for scale. We offer competitive pricing volume break points and long-term supply commitments, because we want to be your partner not just your vendor.”
I’m sure you’ll see how this can easily be adapted for your own applications. The general idea for the article was my own, and the content came from my own experience. But Ai was helpful in generating the bullet points to talk about, generating ideas for each, checking the grammar and coming up with a headline. What I didn’t do was let Ai write any part of the article, avoiding any of the giveaway grammatical idiosyncrasies that we don’t notice but which machines can spot. In addition, presenting it as a spoken reply (which it was) makes it seem both personable and authoritative.
