An urgent need for some very specific content

Yesterday I asked “What happens when we give the new AI-powered ‘answer engines’ some of the key searches we’ve been working on for years, such as ‘blue widget suppliers uk’?” I hope you gave it a try with any general product-related searches that are important to you. If not, I recommend going back and doing so.

If they’re giving answers which aren’t what we want customers to see, what are we going to do about it? I think we’re going to have to do one of two things:

  1. Track down the source of the information, and see if we can influence that; or
  2. Set up, or become, a good source of information ourselves.

To me, this is the key to SEO going forward – influencing or becoming the place that these AI-powered ‘answer engines’ learn from. That’s probably going to mean creating lots of content, urgently. But the old rules about what makes effective content still apply, and I’ll discuss one such method tomorrow.
