Adding more content to our websites isn’t a target, it’s a necessity – at least if we have any interest in seeing the site maintain or improve its performance. Yet it’s so easy to let things slip. I’m probably involved in the maintenance of half a dozen websites at any one time, and the difference between the ones that get enough new content and the ones that don’t? I have a schedule with the ones that do.
If I can, it’s a regular one (e.g. daily on this site, fortnightly on others). But it’s quite sensible to set a number of items for a period, such as two items a month …as long as it’s a number that gets met. The trap we mustn’t fall into is having no schedule, and just saying that we’ll add something when we can. Because we know what the result will be.
