A lot of people reach for LinkedIn as soon as they come into contact with you for the first time. It can be for the most innocuous of reasons: I’ve even been curious to find out what someone I’m talking to on the phone looks like. More seriously, many people use it to see if you have a track record in what you’re talking about. So it’s worth spending a few minutes improving your profile.
Like it or not, first impressions make a difference, so find a decent, professional photograph and background image, which convey the impression you want to give about yourself. Then give considerable thought to the wording you use and the way you sell yourself in your career history underneath. I won’t rewrite what’s already been said so well elsewhere by others: if you want some really good advice, here’s a great guide.
