If you still think “am I number one on Google?” is important, you might want to look away now. It’s increasingly possible that you can be number one on Google and not even appear on the first results screen. The amount of alternative material appearing on the Google results pages surprised even me when I watched “Dr Pete’s Guide to the Changing Google SERPs”, a presentation from a recent search marketing conference. I’d thoroughly recommend watching it if you have a few minutes. The video is here and the slide deck is here (you’ll need to follow them at the same time in separate windows). Find out about Knowledge Graph boxes, “Local Pack” boxes, carousel displays and more.
