A few sources have been reporting increased traffic from the Bing search engine recently. Admittedly those that I’ve seen are coming from the USA, and things are different there, but it’s worth keeping an eye on. Bing is also about to become the default general search engine within Apple operating systems, so that might make a difference.
I have access to the analytics for some big sites with worldwide traffic, and on these I still see Google visits outnumbering Bing by between 5:1 and 10:1. If your business is primarily in Europe, or just in the UK, you may find the ratio is even higher. We find that Google has a larger market share in Europe, and also in business, so together they make a powerful combination.
At the moment, the differences in search engine optimisation for Bing and Google aren’t worth worrying about. However, if you’re an AdWords advertiser, it may finally be worth looking at Bing Ads too, if these trends turn out to have some substance.
