Creating content for your website, whether it’s authoritative background material or jaunty blog posts, is a difficult job at the best of times. But it’s made even more difficult if you just sit down at your desk and ask yourself: “Now, what shall I write about today?” Instead, as I was reminded by this recent video, you need to think like a photographer. Wherever the best photographers go, they’re looking for photos. After a while, great photo opportunities seem to just come to them. It sounds really trite in the context of engineering or scientific marketing, but it can work. Ideas come from all over the place, you just need to have a way of making a note of them all. And you don’t have to write the articles: there are plenty of great writers out there to bring your thoughts to life. It’s the ideas which are at a premium.
