Many of you will have noticed Googles “Instant Preview” feature, which shows little snapshots of pages on the search results page, before you click through to them. It’s not impossible to imagine people using this as a deciding factor in whether to choose one result over another, but I have to say, it’s unlikely for now that any of us are going to change our page designs so that they look better in miniature. However, it is one more argument in favour of getting more striking and better-presented images on our sites. If people are looking for blue widgets, and our pages clearly show a nice blue widget – even when the pages are miniaturised – it can only help. Text is critical, but don’t neglect the photography. As you can see below, our site is definitely “could do better”.
