A more technical article today, for those of you studying how to promote your website in the Google results. As you know, “it’s all about the links”. But what constitutes a good link? It’s obvious that a link from the middle of a major news story on the BBC website is going to have more weight than a link from the Blogroll in the footer of your sister’s Blogger page about her cat. What about everything in between though? SEOmoz has some great information on this in All Links are Not Created Equal. Links higher up in the page are better, it seems, as are links from obviously trustworthy external sites (especially new ones). Also try to get links from within body copy, not from sidebars, footers or lists, and don’t link out to poor quality sites.
