About the UK Industrial Marketing Blog

From the bonny Highlands of Scotland I sit here, not just gazing out at the lovely scenery, but looking out ‘at’ the world through this tool-of-the-devil (some say), reading, watching and participating in that oh-so challenging, shifting sand, profession that is marketing.

Not just any old marketing – industrial marketing. The Cinderalla of the industry, little thought of, or addressed.

So if you are marketing widgets (or pneumatic cylinders – lol!) join me here, along the way I’ll rant and sigh, publish hints and tips (might even save you some time) and hopefully bring you some inspiration. And do indulge me, because I’ll probably want to mention otters, dolphins and eagles or even the red deer stag I can see (now) from my office window…

I’ve lined up some great guest contributors – so you really will be getting some expert advice.

I’ve been there, done it, got many a t-shirt (as they say), and now I’m in a place I love, and best of all I work from home for such a lovely bunch of clients. Best job in the world? You bet!

About the Author:

Jackie West began her career in the merchandising division of the Sperry Rand Corporation, from there worked for a gold and silverware company (marketing to prestigous retail outlets).

At the end of the 70′s a sales and marketing position, with a market-leading medical equipment company, enabled Jackie to expand her horizons, marketing products to a world-wide audience (medical professionals in hospitals, medical centres and industrial occupational health departments), this included travelling extensively overseas.

By the end of the 80′s she had joined a Japanese corporation in the fluid power sector. During this time she built relationships with many editors in the engineering and manufacturing field, worked closely with schools and other educational establishments/bodies to promote engineering to young people, and was an active member of the British Fluid Power publicity committee.

Redundancy in 2004 caused Jackie to evaluate where she wanted to be, and decided upon complete change of life/work style. She moved to the Highlands of Scotland, where she set-up her home office and commenced working for a leading on-line industrial publisher.

Currently Jackie is freelance and retains her industrial publishing working links, but her client base has now expanded to include clients, in various market sectors, in the Highlands as well as south of the border.

Jackie lives on the edge of a remote village in Wester Ross, is surrounded by mountains and tends to get a little distracted by the wildlife passing her office window.
