Valves or Values?
Jackie West writes:
For some time now (actually since well before last Christmas) every time a certain advert comes on the TV I bristle, and have actually been known to shout at the screen….yup!
Have you noticed it, too?
It’s the one promoting a certain dating site – and half-way through the ad there’s lovely messages against smiley, beautiful people (so much in love) – and the one word which shouts out at me is…..‘valves!’ but of course it’s not ‘valves’ it’s ‘values’…. but because of the font used the ‘u’ and the ‘v’ are (it seems to me) the same. (I think it’s called Jewel Hill)
Ok, so I spent some 14 years writing about valves and actuators, so my brain may be a little skewed – but somehow I don’t think so.
Just recently (they must have heard my ranting) in one version of the advert, the font has been amended, so the word actually now reads (to my mind) as ‘values’…
So, what’s the point to this rant – only that it’s worth taking advice on font readability when embarking on any project – in whatever environment it may be read.
Here’s an interesting article about the subject, courtesy of www.neurosciencemarketing.com/blog – the author follows-on with futher font advice here.
