What tasks do your users need to accomplish?

I really like the idea presented in the article “5 Website User Experience Mistakes That Hurt Your Bank Account” on the Pole Position Marketing Blog. It suggests that you complete a “task completion outline” for your site, which entails “mapping out all of the major types of visitor roles that come to your site, segmenting them by their needs, listing the common tasks that each visitor might be looking to accomplish; then identifying content, architecture and functionality that will support each task.” You’ll find it buried in the middle of the article, but do stop and think about it. Common sense, but probably something few of us have done.

Thanks Chris! It’s definitely something few business owners/marketers/etc. ever think about. But if/when they do, they usually have multiple ah ha! moments in the process.
