I'm not suggesting that the iPhone, with its crippled (rather than nonexistent) multitasking, is the way ahead. Indeed, multitasking may indeed prove to be crucial, but perhaps in a restricted way where the governing app "lets you out" to do what you need to.

Fair point. a) Open up Facebook
b) Open up a second tab with my favourite Facebook application, play that for a little bit, need to wait for a few things to happen, so,
c) Back to the first tab, read some of my friends news, want to tell them about something,
d) Open up a third browser tab, find the page on the web I need, copy the hyperlink...
e) ...back to the first tab, to paste it in as a comment.
f) Bring up an Explorer window, to find the photos I have floating around my hard drive
g) Back to the game on the second tab, do a bit more...
h) Post the photos using the first tab...
And so on. Now, I've never used an Iphone, but I understand that multitasking is not possible - I have an HTC with multitasking capabilities, like me. I see where apps have their appeal on a small handset, but sometimes multitasking appeals too, especially on the size of a PC screen... Horses for courses?

Chris, you have me intrigued – all the way up to when you bought in Facebook as an example.
